It was the first time I was lined out with a plan and have been able to follow it for over a year, because I learned more in depth about both what my body’s real needs are, and what is NOT good for it.
I started working with Julene at a time when I felt like I needed a food and exercise makeover. I wasn’t motivated to move or eat properly, and I started following her on Facebook and wondered, what is she doing? I want some of that! So, I met with her once, and her enthusiasm inspired me to take action. We began meeting regularly and I began learning about truly healthy eating – not dieting or special diets like paleo or vegan, but truly nutritional eating. I’ve experienced more physical and emotional pain the last year than the previous 53 years combined. August 25 of last year I crashed my mountain bike and broke 3 ribs in my back with multiple fractures and was off work for 6 weeks. The 12 Day Detox is amazing! I’d say that the favorite thing that I got out of this is a renewed appreciation for food.
Overall, I found it very easy to follow the program exactly – which is exactly what I did. The advance info and ongoing support that I received were helpful – and I think that never deviating or cheating even a tiny bit made it easier to stick with. Days 3 and 4 were probably the most difficult for me – the symptoms weren’t too bad, but I did wake up with a headache on both of those days. (A little bit of lavender oil rubbed on my temples helped ease that.) As for the benefits – there are really so many that it’s hard to choose, but for me a few seem to stand out. First, I have mild allergies, that seem to come and go year round. I’ve always thought it was because I spend so much time hiking the foothills – but, by about day 5 of the detox I was breathing clear with no sneezing! Second, my knees have given me trouble for years, but on about day 6 my knee joints were starting to feel pretty good, and by the end of the program I felt absolutely no pain at all. This came as a very pleasant surprise, I had no idea that diet influences joint health. And third, I’d say that the favorite thing that I got out of this is a renewed appreciation for food and all its magnificent colors, textures, tastes and aromas.
